BLACK BEAR
CYCLING, Membership Information
Black Bear Cycling was founded on the principles of cycling
advocacy and safety, conservation of trail systems and natural
resources, and volunteerism within our community.
Black Bear Cycling is an open membership cycling club which
will accept individuals who have an interest in mountain and road
bicycling. Since we are an open member club we ask that
individuals interested in joining review our Bylaws and be
willing to accept the terms of membership which include a
requirement to volunteer 15 hours of service to club-sponsored
activities. Opportunities to fulfill this obligation are offered
through a variety of activities, outlined as follows:
- Work at the annual mountain bike race. Activities may include
registration, scoring, race course preparation, or assisting with
other paperwork related to the event. Workers at this event also
get a cool event T-shirt.
- Work at one of our Trail Maintenance sessions at Wawayanda
State Park. These happen at least monthly from March through the
end of the year, depending on weather conditions. There are
plenty of chances to get your hours here.
- Lead group rides on behalf of the club. When a ride is listed
and a member takes on the ride leader role they can receive
credit for one hour of work for every two rides they lead. The
ride must be posted on the club calendar and a sign in sheet
provided to the club secretary. This can be a road or mountain
bike ride.
- Other work as approved by the Executive Committee.

the following benefits:

meet new people to share the cycling experience
